IDENTIFY YOUR PROGRESSION ROUTE
I am currently waiting to hear back from both Bath Spa and Brighton photography courses on UCAS. I aim to complete a 3 year degree, although the thought of going travelling has crossed my mind, I think I know myself enough to say that I still want to be learning, and expanding my knowledge, with a specific structure along the way.
WHY DID YOU CHOSE THIS ROUTE?
The subject of photography is so broad, and so considered, that the idea of immersing myself in a 3 year degree I find exciting and look forward to continuing to expand both practice and knowledge. I feel like I need the structure and guidance of a course as opposed to a more ‘free’ apprenticeship or working straight away in the industry.
WHAT OTHER OPTIONS DID YOU CONSIDER?
I considered the photojournalism courses, although the more academic journalism side put me off slightly, knowing that I wanted to focus on the photography aspect of it more so. I was also considering applying to Plymouth university, although the distance and slightly ‘isolated’ nature of the place persuaded me to seek other open days. I also considered at first the idea of working and travelling for a year, but found that I knew I need the structure of a degree course.
GIVE EXAMPLES OF HOW YOU HAVE PRESENTED YOURSELF AND YOUR WORK TO OTHERS
I have presented my work in blog form, digital form with verbal explanation to the group in critiques and to tutors within tutorials. I like to contribute to lectures and project launches with my views, and find that I can also present myself this way, discussing and verbalizing ideas allowing me to become more inquisitive about further exploration. I also use an instagram page which is public to other followers, and allows me to share my work with other users, as I use it as almost a digital portfolio.
